All undergraduates must pass the Regents' Test, a two-part 60-minute exam consisting of reading and writing, to graduate. The test is offered each semester and students must register online. A confirmation ticket, with important information about the test, must be printed.

Students, including transfers, must take the test their first semester of enrollment at GSW unless they have previously satisfied the requirements. In addition, they must continue to register each term thereafter until both portions of the test are satisfied. Students enrolled in Learning Support English or Reading can not take the exam.

Transfer students who do not take or pass the Regents' Test in their first semester and students who score 50 or lower on the Regents' Test will be administratively enrolled in the Regents' Remediation course(s) in their second semester of enrollment. Also, if by the end of the enrolled semester, you have earned 45 or more semester credit hours and have not passed both parts of the Regents' Test, you must take the appropriate Regents' Remediation course(s) during your next term of enrollment.

Extended Time

Some students may be eligible for extended time, for the exam, due to international status or the second successful completion of a remediation course(s) and have taken the exam twice. Extended time must be pre-approved by the above deadline. Please click here for more information.

Students must be currently enrolled and have a GSW ID card in order to take the Regents' Examination.

Regents' Testing Dates

During the Fall 2009 semesters, the Regents' test (both parts, essay only, and reading only) will be offered during the following times:

Essay Only Students lacking essay part only. (Tue) October 27, 2009 - 9:00am (check-in 8:45am)

Reading Only Students lacking reading part only. (Wed) October 28, 2009 - 3:00pm (check-in 2:45pm)

Both Parts Students lacking essay and reading part. (Tues) October 27, 2009 - 2:00pm (check-in 1:45pm) (Wed) October 28, 2009 - 9:00am (check-in 8:45am)

Please note: You may attend only ONE session of the regent's test per semester. If you have to take both parts of the test, you must take both parts during the same session.

Don't know which part is needed? Students should review their "GSW transcript" to determine which part of the exam is needed. The GSW transcript displays "Required" in red for the lacking part.
