TAKE UNIV 4000
In the Spring Semester, UNIV 4000 will provide a service learning experience
for 15 students selected through application.
Taught by Drs. Tom Weiland, Joe Johnson, and Peggy Ellington, the course will
focus on Costa Rica and will culminate with travel to Costa Rica from May 10-20
to work on a Habitat for Humanity project and to see the rainforest, active
volcanoes, and other sights. The majority of travel expenses will be paid by the
University. Each student will be asked to raise $200 through various means as
part of the course.
UNIV 4000 is a 3-credit course, which will meet MWF (Time:TBA) during Spring
2004. You will study about Costa Rica in preparation for the trip in May.
Students will be expected to become knowledgeable about various aspects of Costa
Rican culture and will have the opportunity to study specific areas related to
their major.

Admission is by application only. The application deadline is October 20.
Applications are available in the Office of Student Life, Academic Affairs
Office, or the offices of Dr. Ellington (English ), Dr. Johnson (English ) and
Dr. Weiland (Roney 212). Applications are due by 5pm on October 20, and students
will be notified prior to registration so that they can enroll if accepted.

- GSW pays $800 of your travel expenses; you pay $100 and raise $100
