         A Closer Look         

CAMPUS
The University was founded in 1906. Thirty-five buildings and a lake are nested on 205 scenic wooded acres. Adjacent to campus is the newly purchased Georgia Southwestern Golf and Converence Center including a 150-acre golf course. Long, warm summers and short, mild winters are characteristics of the area's climate - making for pleasant living conditions and year-round recreation.


FACULTY
All classes are taught by experienced faculty - not teaching assistants. Our faculty consists of full-time professors: 82 percent hold doctorates/terminal degrees. Faculty devote their time primarily to teaching and advising undergraduates. Our students-to-faculty ration is 17 to 1.


PLACEMENT
Education does not end with graduation. Many of our students go to pursue graduate or professional studies after receiving their degrees.
As educated individuals with initiative and a desire to be lifelong learners, our graduates are accepted at the nation's best graduate institutions and secure careers in top companies worldwide.

JAMES EARL CARTER LIBRARY
Over 190,000 volumes; GALILEO (Georgia Library Learning Online) provides access over to 150 databases; GIL (Georgia Integrated Libraries) and SOLINET (Southeastern Library Network) provides access to more than 30 million books and other materials.


COMPUTER ACCESS
More than 225 computers are available to students in more than a dozen labs. All students have e-mail access.
Students may access their internet in residence hall rooms through the campus network or modem.

 

GLASSBLOWING STUDIO
Only academic lab in Georgia; one of 70 in the nation.


OLYMPIC SIZE SWIMMING POOL
Available for year-round recreational swimming and competitions. This facility is home to the Americus Blue Tide Swim Team and Olympic Gold- Medalist Angel Myers Martino.
