MISSION STATEMENT FOR ASIAN STUDIES
In a changing world of increasing interdependence and interaction, the acquisition of knowledge and skills to cope with international and intercultural differences is an important quality of American citizenship. The future of humanity depends upon the extent of understanding and appreciation the people have of the differences in culture, institutions, and practices among other human populations. Having insight into an awareness of such differences will eventually contribute to the development of a peaceful global community. In the global community, Asia is an increasingly important region in terms of national interest. We feel programs linking the two peoples will result in mutual benefits for both and will strengthen the world community.
