ENGLISH LANGUAGE INSTITUTE
The English Language Institute (ELI) brings many students from foreign countries, mainly countries in Asia, to GSW to study English prior to becoming regular students at GSW, other institutions in Georgia, or in other states. In addition, GSW receives students who study English for other specific purposes: Nurses, English teachers, Japanese and Korean businessmen, government officials, and professors study English to learn about American culture, society, and business practices and for professional enrichment.
About GSW
Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) is one of the 34 institutions in the University System of Georgia. It offers degree programs in Education, Nursing, English , Physical and Natural Sciences, Social Science, Business, Fine Arts, Music, Mathematics, and Computer Science. The University has been highly rated by U.S. News and World Report and Money Magazines. GSW is the alma mater of former president of the United States, Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Rosalyn Carter.
The university is located on 250 acres in the safe environment of a lovely small southern town in the U.S.A., Americus, Georgia. Americus has a population of approximately 17,000 and is known for its beautifully restored Victorian architecture. It is 135 miles south of Atlanta. The climate is characterized by long, warm summers and short, mild winters.
Cultural Experiences - All ELI students receive a student identification card and have the same privileges as regular GSW students, including full access to all facilities. ELI students can participate in a number of social events and activities on and off campus.
Programs and Services - We offer options for short- and long-term English language study throughout the year for learners of every level and interest. Whether you wish to come for a short period to develop your English communication skills or aim to expand your academic English skills with a long-term intensive program, the ELI has something for you. Outside of class you can experience the wonders of Americus and Georgia through guided social activities. While you are attending ELI, you can stay on campus in the dormitory We are here to help you make the most of your stay in our safe and beautiful town.
