Message from Director: Dr. Lee
As the director of the Center for Asian Studies, which operates the English Language Institute (ELI) of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), I would like to extend my sincere welcome to prospective students who are interested in coming to GSW. GSW is a state supported university in Georgia and is well recognized for its academic excellence. It is a relatively small university located in a small town of approximately 17,000 people who are friendly toward international students.
Americus is one of the safest places to live and study in the United States. International students who come to GSW have ample opportunity to interact with American students and family members through extra-curricular activities such as student organizations, campus events and host families. Some faculty members of regular classes require interaction with international students as a part of class requirements.
The English Language Institute (ELI) at GSW was established in 1988 and provides a well-designed curriculum to meet the needs of non-native speakers of English. We also focus on helping students improve TOEFL scores and conversational English. Our instructors are well experienced and dedicated to helping our ELI students not only to improve their English proficiency, but also to solve cultural and social problems. Being a state supported institution in a small town, the cost of attending GSW ELI is much less than the cost of ESL programs located in big cities or operated by large universities.
