INCENTIVES FOR PARTICIPATION

To encourage participation in the Teaching Circle Program, GSW offers incentives to the faculty. Faculty who attend at least three teaching circle meetings, including any combination of circles, receive $100. Attendance at six or more meetings qualifies for an additional $100. Administrators who hold faculty rank are also eligible for the incentives.

In the past, faculty have used their incentives for the following projects:

  • Conference travel reimbursement
  • Professional organization membership dues
  • Books for the Carter Library

Although the incentives encourage participation, statistics for the 2003-2004 Academic Year suggest that the incentives alone do not drive participation in the Teaching Circles. Almost 40% of faculty who attended a teaching circle in 2003-2004 went to more than six meetings, participating at levels that exceed the incentive structure. Over 75% of those eligible for the Teaching Circle Program participated in a teaching circle.
