Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic support program, which seeks to improve the quality of academic success for students. This is accomplished through small group sessions and  is offered free of charge to GSW students.  Supplemental Instruction's purpose is to improve the students' understanding of course concepts and to build academic confidence.  Students are encouraged to sign up for the program as soon as the first sign of difficulty in a course arises.  Research has indicated that students who attend SI sessions on a regular basis earn better grades and develop a better understanding of course content.

SI leaders

SI leaders are students who have attended a class with the same professor and are prepared to share what they have learned about how to study. They know the course content and are anxious to offer guidance through it. Their job is to help students think about the lectures heard and books  read and then put it into perspective during SI review.

    The Benefits of SI

Each SI leader will set up convenient weekly sessions. A student may attend as many sessions as desired.  Each one will be different because there will be new material to discuss. SI review sessions are informal. Bring your notes; bring your textbooks; bring your questions.
