 Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty

       Brian U. Adler

 

Dr. Adler took office as Georgia Southwestern's VPAA June 1, 2008. He is responsible for oversight of the academic programs and policies of the University. In that regard, Adler serves as the chief academic, and the deans of each individual school report directly to his office. Adler served as the dean of the Graduate School at Valdosta State University from 2005 until the present. Prior, he served as administrative head of VSU's Philosophy and Religious Studies Department (Spring and Summer 2004) and director of the Honors Program. A position he held from 1994 to 2004. Adler earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of South Carolina in 1978, a Master of Arts in English from the University of Georgia in 1984 and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Tennessee in 1988.

Meet Our Staff:

   Lynda Lee F. Purvis

Dean of Academic Services and Special Programs

Lynda Lee F. Purvis has been in her position since 1994. She came to GSW in 1991, serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Mathematics before her move to the Office of Academic Affairs. Mrs. Purvis earned her master's degree from the University of Alabama and her bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia.

   Dawn Knapp

Administrative Assistant to the Vice President

Dawn Knapp began working at Georgia Southwestern State University in February 1980 at Central Stores which is now Materials Management. After about fifteen months, she decided to be a "stay at home" mom. Dawn came back to GSW in July 1982 to work at the same office, Central Stores. Since then, she has worked at the GSW Bookstore, the Business Office, Department of Developmental Studies, the Office of Residence Life, and now in Academic Affairs. Dawn has received an AAS degree with a concentration in Office Automation.
