What is the
purpose of ACCEL?
The purpose of the ACCEL Program is to provide Georgia high school students
the opportunity to earn college credits as they simultaneously meet their
high school graduation requirements by providing financial assistance toward
their cost of attendance at eligible public or private colleges/universities
and technical colleges in Georgia.
How is the ACCEL
program funded?
The ACCEL
Program is funded by the Georgia Lottery for Education and administered by
the Georgia Student Finance Commission. It is designed to provide
participating high school students with financial assistance toward the cost
of postsecondary coursework. It is
critical
that students understand that the credit hours for which they receive
payment from the ACCEL Program will be included in the maximum total number
of credit hours of payment they can receive from the HOPE Scholarship
Program, after they graduate from high school.
What are the eligibility requirements?
2.Be enrolled in an eligible Georgia public or private college/university or technical college taking approved college credit course work
3.Be a legal resident of Georgia
4.Be a U.S. citizen or national of the U.S. or have evidence from INS of eligible permanent resident alien status
5.Be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements
6.Be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990
7.Not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program
8.Maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college
What do I need for Admissions in order to be accepted into the program?

3.SAT and/or ACT scores
4.ACCEL application
What are the admissions requirements?
school junior or senior
2. SAT score of 970 with a minimum of 430 Critical reading and 400 Math or ACT composite score
of 20 with a minimum of 17 English and 17 Math
3. 3.0 GPA in college preparatory courses
Students may
take classes in English, Math, Science, and in the Social Science areas.
The ACCEL program does not cover the costs for classes in the physical
education or computer areas. However, students may take classes in these
areas at the their expense.
How do I register for classes?
Once you have been accepted into the ACCEL Program at Georgia Southwestern, you will need to make an appointment with the Admissions Office to register for classes.
How much is it going to cost me?
Students attending public colleges/universities and technical colleges will receive an award that covers tuition, approved fees, and a book allowance.
How much is the book allowance?
Students
enrolled in six or more college credit hours will receive $150 per semester
Students enrolled in one to five hours will receive $75 per semester
There will be an Orientation session on August 6, 2008 at 4:00pm to allow ACCEL students the opportunity to see where their classes will be, meet other students, and have their GSW ID’s made.
