Freshmen Scholarships
Charles F. Crisp Scholarship
This endowment was established by family and friends in memory of Charles F. Crisp, former President of the Bank of Commerce and local business leader in Americus, Georgia. Recipient must be a resident of Georgia, an incoming Freshman with a minimum SAT of 1000 and HS GPA of 3.0. Consideration is also given to students currently enrolled at GSW with a 3.0 GPA.
Leewyn Finklea Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honor the memory of Leewyn Finklea, an educator and GSW’s first Alumni Director. Applicants must have financial need, a minimum 2.75 GPA and show interest in community and school related activities.
Frances Bagley Arenz Jones Scholarship
This Alumni Award is available to incoming Freshmen who are Sumter County residents. Vicktor Jones established it to honor his wife, Frances Bagley Arenz, a 1939 graduate of GSW. Criteria include a HS GPA of 2.8 and no grades below C. Applicants are also considered for leadership qualities and participation in extra-curricular activities. This scholarship can be on-going as long as the criteria are met.
H. Phil Jones, Jr.
Citizens Bank of
Americus Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of H. Phil Jones, Jr., former president of the Citizens Bank of Americus. It is available to Sumter County or Webster County residents exhibiting financial need, those who show leadership qualities through extracurricular activities such as clubs, sports or volunteer work and is an “average” student with a 2.0-3.25 GPA.
Mary Lou Jordan Scholarship
This scholarship is a memorial to Mary Lou Jordan, an English instructor at GSW from 1926 to 1945. It is available to a Georgia Freshman with a minimum HS GPA of 3.0 and SAT of 1000.
Junior Service League Scholarship
The Junior Service League of Americus established a scholarship for an incoming Freshman with a 3.0 GPA or better. Priority will be given to a child/stepchild of active or honorary Americus JSL members in good standing. In case of multiple applicants, the award goes to the applicant with the highest GPA and SAT scores. Students must complete a GSW scholarship application for consideration.
Levine-Hanes Scholarship
Dr. Michael Hanes, former President of GSW and his wife, Dr. Madlyn Hanes, established this endowed scholarship in honor of their parents. This scholarship will be awarded to a first year, traditional age, full time student who has demonstrated unmet financial need and qualifies for regular admission with above average credentials. It can be extended if recipient qualifies.
Myra Lunsford Scholarship
The Myra Lunsford Scholarship is an endowed scholarship established by Myra Lunsford, Class of 1927, and is awarded to a worthy undergraduate student who has a 3.0 GPA and demonstrates participation in school related scholastic activities while in High School or at GSW.
John Prance Scholarship
This Alumni endowed scholarship, named in honor of John Prance, GSW President from 1932 to 1934, is awarded to entering Freshmen who demonstrate financial need, possess a HS GPA of 3.0, and a minimum SAT of 1000.
Jim Ray Scholarship
This endowment was established by Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ray of Americus, Georgia, in memory of their son Jim. The recipient must be enrolled full-time and in good standing. Consideration will be given but not restricted to incoming Freshmen. Preference is given to student athletes in the sport of golf.
Roy Lee & Susan Smith Scholarship
The family of Roy Lee Smith, a successful local businessman, established this scholarship fund with preference given to boys and girls from the Georgia Sheriff’s Youth Homes. Scholarships are for high school graduates who meet GSW admission standards and remain in good standing while attending. Minimum of 12 credit hours must be taken each semester. Covers room, board, books and tuition.
Henry King Stanford Scholarship
This Alumni scholarship was named in honor of Henry King Stanford, President of GSW from 948 through 1950 and former President of Birmingham Southern, Ga. College and State University in Milledgeville, University of Miami, and University of Georgia. Criteria: in-coming Freshman, minimum SAT of 1000, and 3.0 GPA.
Martha Hudson Westbrook Scholarship
Martha H. Westbrook, Class of 1929, for whom the Westbrook Clock Tower on campus was named, established this scholarship to assist worthy undergraduate students who demonstrate participation in scholastic activities while in high school or at GSW. Must possess a GPA of 3.0.
Weston Scholarship
A past chairman of the Board of Trustees of the GSW Foundation, D. Michael Weston established an endowed scholarship to encourage high academic achievement to an incoming GSW Freshman who possesses a 2.0 to 2.5 HS GPA and scored less than 1100 on the SAT.
Frances Wood Wilson Scholarship
The Frances Wood Wilson Foundation of Decatur, Georgia, provides assistance to worthy students with a GPA of 3.0 and who demonstrate leadership involvement in school activities. Selection is by the Director of Admissions.
Deadline for Application is February 15th
The Beginning Freshmen Scholarship Application is used to award the above scholarships, as well as the Wheatley Scholarships.
All scholarships are based on availability.
