All undergraduates must take the Regents' Test, a two-part exam consisting of reading and writing to graduate! The test is offered each semester and students must register online. A confirmation ticket, with important information about the test, must be printed.

The exam has two sections: Essay and Reading. Students are given 60 minutes to complete each section and are required to take both sections at one sitting.

Students may choose to take the test any time before 45 semester hours are completed. If by the end of the enrolled semester, you have earned 45 or more semester credit hours and have not passed both parts of the Regents' Test, you must take the appropriate Regents' Remediation class(es) during your next term of enrollment.

Students transferring from within and outside the University System should attempt the test during their first semester enrolled. Those students within the University System who have 30 or more credits transferred must attempt the test during their first term of attendance. Those students transferring from outside the University System or from a System program that does not require the Regents' test will have two semester to complete the requirements, starting with the first term of attendance, after which time remediation will be required until both sections of the test are passed.

Extended Time

Some students may be eligible for extended time, for the exam, due to international status or the second successful completion of a remediation class(es) and have taken the exam twice. Extended time must be pre-approved by the above deadline. Please click here for more information.

Students must be currently enrolled and have a GSW ID card in order to take the Regents' Examination.

Regents' Testing Dates

During the Fall 2008 semesters, the Regents' test (both parts, essay only, and reading only) will be offered during the following times:

Essay Only Students lacking essay part only. (Wed) October 22, 2008 - 9:00am (check-in 8:45am)

Reading Only Students lacking reading part only. (Tues) October 21, 2008 - 3:00pm (check-in 2:45pm)

Both Parts Students lacking essay and reading part. (Mon) October 20, 2008 - 2:00pm (check-in 1:45pm) (Tues) October 21, 2008 - 9:00am (check-in 8:45am)

Please note: You may attend only ONE session of the regent's test per semester. If you have to take both parts of the test, you must take both parts during the same session.

Don't know which part is needed? Students should review their "GSW transcript" to determine which part of the exam is needed. The GSW transcript displays "Required" in red for the lacking part.
