How Do I Know If I Should Seek Counseling?
If you or someone you know has been:
- ● Dealing with alcohol and drug abuse
- ● Having difficulty concentrating
- ● Feeling helpless or hopeless
- ● Performing poorly at work and/or in class
- ● Suffering from low self-esteem
- ● Experiencing relationship conflict with relatives, friends, or
significant others
● Experiencing a crisis or stressful event (death in family, divorce, or breakup of a relationship) - ● Experiencing suicidal thoughts
SOME COMMON SIGNS INDICATING THAT A STUDENT IS IN NEED OF HELP:
- ● Lack of energy, listlessness, continually sleeping in class
- ● Behavior that regularly interferes with effective management of your class
- ● Frequent absence with little or no work completed
- ● Marked changes in personal hygiene
- ● Dramatic drop in academic performance
- ● Always asking for special consideration/make-up excuses
- ● Overly suicidal thoughts, sometimes expressed in writing
- ● Inability to make decision despite your repeated attempts and encouragement
- ● Dramatic weight loss or weight gain
- ● Always making appointments to see you during office hours
- ● High level of aggression, even violent behavior
