|
Purpose: To assist Habitat for Humanity eliminate substandard housing by working with the local affiliate (New Horizons Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sumter County) and the Habitat for Humanity International Headquarters. Background Information: Habitat homes are sold at no profit to partner families with no interest mortgages. Through volunteer labor, donations and educational outreach, the Campus Chapter works with Habitat in the construction of new homes and the rehabilitation of existing homes. The Chapter also organizes and runs fund raising and educational events in support of local and international projects. GSW students and faculty have participated in builds and other Habitat projects in several states including Georgia, Florida and Alabama. Several Chapter members have also participated in University-4000, an international service learning course that travels to other countries such as Mexico and Costa Rica to participate in Global Village projects.
