Associate Professor/Professor of Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, or Physics)
Tenure-track position to begin August, 2008 in the College of Arts and Sciences in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) field – state grant-funded position. Position requires a person with strong teaching skills at the University level in a STEM field and a proven record with teacher education programs. Also, the ability to manage and lead a comprehensive STEM initiative is required. Responsibilities include teaching in discipline area and overall management of the STEM initiative at Georgia Southwestern State University. STEM includes organizing an academy for future teachers in STEM fields, teaching model courses in their field, serving as counselor/advisor for students majoring in STEM fields, conducting assessments on the progress of the initiative, advocating for faculty working for improvements in P-12 school systems, and working with other STEM faculty to increase pass rates in introductory classes. The successful candidate will also chair the GSW STEM Steering Committee and work closely with the STEM Director in the USG P-16 office. A PhD in a STEM field is required and university-level teaching experience and familiarity with and enthusiasm for science/mathematics education is expected. Administrative experience desirable.
