Rules

Bench Press Meet Rules & Regulations

A. Entries


1. No advance entry is necessary. Enter on site at the Fitness Center.


B. Equipment


1. Weights, bar, bench, and chalk will be provided.


C. General Rules


1. A lifter must lower the bar to the chest and have the bar become stationary before beginning the upward lift.

2. A lifter may not raise his/her hips off the bench during the lift.

3. A lift will be disqualified for uneven arm extension.

4. A lift will be disqualified for using too wide a grip.

5. Replacing the bar in the racks to quickly will disqualify a lift.

6. All lifter must have a spotter present. The spotter may assist with a lift-off. If a spotter touches the bar before it is returned to the rack, the lift will be declared a failed attempt.

7. The Supervisor/Judge must witness all lifts.

8. The Supervisor/judge will have final authority on whether or not a lift can be attempted.

D. Format


1. Each lifter will be required to weigh-in prior to the start of the contest.

2. Each lifter will be placed in a specific weight class.

3. Lifters will receive 3 attempts (completed or failed lifts) to reach their maximum.

4. Weight class winners will receive a t-shirt.

5. Overall male and female winners (most weight lifted) will receive a plaque.

E. Eligibility


1. GSW students and faculty/staff members are eligible to participate.

2. Participants are required to present a current GSW photo ID on site.

F. Participants should be aware that there is a risk of injury in participation of intramural sports due to the inherent nature of the activity. Individuals participate in intramural sports at their own risk.
