of Information & Instructional Technology Department: Office of Information and Instructional Technology Position Responsibilities: Reporting to the President, the Director serves as the Chief Information Officer and is responsible for the integration of technology into the instructional and administrative missions of the University. The Director provides leadership in the identification, justification and articulation of plans for information technology, analyzes the changing information technology needs of the faculty, staff, and students in order to improve the delivery of technology support and services. The Director supervises the Manager of Administrative Computing and the Manager of the Instructional Technology Center as well as support staff in instructional support (including campus television station, distance learning facilities, and faculty and staff development), network services (including technology security), systems development and enterprise systems (student records, financial applications, e-mail, web services, server administration) and user support service. The Director works closely with the University Instructional Technology Advisory Committee and the Administrative Technology Advisory Committee. The Director oversees the administrative Computing Services area/employees, as well as the Instructional Technology area/employees. Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements: Masters Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or closely related field. Doctorate preferred. A minimum of 10 years current experience in Information Technology. Minimum of 5 years in a supervisory management position in information technology, preferably in higher education. Broad experience in instruction and administrative applications required. Must have experience in integrating state-of-the-art technology into higher educational curriculum. Manager
of Administrative Computing Department Department:
Administrative Computing Department Nature of Work: This is administrative work in consulting with the Director of Information and Instructional Technology on operational status of the university’s Administrative Computing Department, assisting in the development of departmental policies and procedures, recommending annual operating budget of department, coordinating with various administrative offices to discern computer needs and appropriate procedures for accomplishing tasks; supervisory work in overseeing job performance of Administrative Computing Department personnel; and technical work in the analysis, design and implementation of college-wide, computer-related information systems. Employee serves as administrative staff and performs duties under general direction of the Director of Information and Instructional Technology. This position also creates source code to provide reports, files, etc for Banner student records and financial aid, the Students Accounts Office, Campus Safety, and Central Stores. This position serves as the backup systems administrator for the HP9000 machines and serves as the backup to the Banner DBA Position Responsibilities: Prepares agendas for periodic consultations with the Director of Information and Instructional Technology to impart new information, learn of administrative concerns and develop plans of action. Attends administrative staff meetings to discuss departmental concerns and solicit requests from other offices for computer-related services and recommendations for modifications. Prepares Evaluation Plan Summary annually for the Director of Information and Instructional Technology’s review. Manages available resources for the optimal functioning of computing in the university environment and recommends annual budget to support that effort. Assists in the drafting and implementation of computing policies and procedures. Screens and interviews applicants for departmental positions and orients new employees in their duties. Supervises job performance of professional employees, staff and student assistants, conducts annual performance evaluations and upgrades job descriptions as required. Develops personnel files for office employees and updates periodically. Meets with faculty and staff to evaluate needs and design, implement and maintain appropriate systems to meet those needs. This Position is responsible for working closely with other departments on campus to determine their Banner reporting needs, and writing source code to provide the reports, files, statistics, etc., for these departments. Careful attention must be paid to the validity of reports and any inconsistency in data must be reported to the appropriate department. It is the responsibility of this position to make sure all new or modified Banner codes are incorporated into all reporting procedures. Careful attention must be placed on Regents and state and federal regulations. This position is responsible for the preparing and submitting required Regents reports each semester. This includes, but is not limited to SIRS, CIR, RUR, High School feedback, graduate salary survey. Must work closely with departments responsible for data to make sure our data is correct. This position is responsible for reporting needs and data entry forms for the Loan Collection System, Resource Loan System, Inventory system, Central Stores System, and Campus Safety Decals System. Performs related duties as required. Desirable Knowledge skills and abilities: Considerable knowledge of several major programming and operating system languages and the particular characteristics of the machines on which the languages are being used. Instructional Technology Department Nature of Work: Responsible for managing the support of the University’s instructional technology needs. Coordinate design, install, and support the University’s “model” classrooms and manage the faculty/staff development lab; upgrade instructional facilities campus wide. Provide leadership for cable programming and video production as well as administrative support for distance education programs via videoconferencing, satellite and land-based systems. Provide consultation and training for presentation enhancement for academic purposes as well as state-of-the-art applications for integrating technology into the curriculum. Provide presentation production and support in accordance with institutional priority. Position Responsibilities: Consults with the Director of the Office of Information and Instructional Technology to develop policies and campus-wide standards for integrating technology into the teaching-learning process. Plans preparation and use of multi-media and multi-image instructional materials for the institution and provides technical assistance in the preparation of multi-media presentations. Sets priorities, and establishes procedures and maintains schedule to insure timely completion of work requests for multi-media instructional materials. Oversees and coordinates activities of the audio-visual production facilities including the operation and maintenance of the television studio and the government access cable channel. Manages the planning, development and presentation of training programs for faculty and staff in the use of instructional software. Provides technical management for distance learning, including online courses, WebCT, GSAMS labs, teleconferencing and satellite systems. Coordinates the distribution and service of audio-visual equipment available to the university community. Ensures that equipment is operational and available to faculty, staff and students. Tests emerging technologies purchases related equipment and software. Consults with faculty and staff regarding audio/video technology purchases and projects to ensure that they are in agreement with the University’s mission and policies. Administrative Computing Department Nature of Work: This is professional work in the Office of Information and Instructional Technology. Duties include installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining microcomputer hardware, software, and peripherals. Requires extensive knowledge of computer hardware and the ability to maintain and repair a wide variety of computers, servers, and peripherals. Also requires proficiency in MS-DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000 Professional, and Windows XP. Proficiency in Windows 2000 Server is required. Familiarity with Windows NT 4 Workstation, Windows NT Server, and MAC OS 7.1-OS X is required. Requires support of Microsoft Office 97 and 2000, XP and a large number of other software packages used by the university. Must have the ability to identify and resolve any potential PC related problem in a timely manner and deal with people at all levels of the organization in a professional manner. In addition, maintenance of a portion of the department’s web page is included in this position. The position requires the administration of a mission-critical Windows 2000 server, the Compass Testing Server and back up administration of the Technical Support Server. A departmental purchasing contact who assists users with determining their hardware and software needs and specifying the products which best meet the business needs prior to the purchase of such items. The position requires knowledge of computer/network security, and technical support for servers outside the OIIT Department. Curriculum planning and implementation for the Tier Support Program is included in this position. Production Coordinator Department:
Administrative Computing Department Nature of Work: This is receptional, secretarial, clerical, bookkeeping, and technical work in the optimization of production on an electronic data processing system – desktop. Work involves the scheduling of job families in order to optimize production, scheduling checkout of audio/video equipment, MicroSoft licensed software. This employee operates the computer and system elements and monitors the system performance by means of a console on-line terminal. Assignments are received in the form of general instructions, phone, email, campus mail and employee works primarily unsupervised. Work is reviewed through results obtained by the end user. Coordinator/Server Administrator Department:
Administrative Computing Department Nature of Work: This position includes responsibilities in the areas of network administration, computer systems administration, and information security. Network administration includes the design, specification, configuration, problem-resolution, documentation, and management of the physical, logical and logistical components of the standards-based electronic network encompassing inter-connectivity for personal computers, servers, mid-size hosts, printers, the Internet, and other electronic devices which provide network services for applications such as email, online classes/distance education, registration, administrative database access, web access, etc. Systems analyst responsibilities include consultation regarding the planning for and purchasing of hardware and software to be placed on the campus network. Computer systems administration includes the purchase specifications for, installation of, and management of a number of file servers and personal computers, their operating systems and application software. Information Security Analyst responsibilities include advocacy for best practices in computer and network security, responding to reports of network security violations originating from the campus LAN as well as those from off campus, and serving on the campus Computer Emergency Response Team. Other responsibilities include some supervision of part-time student workers. . Work is performed independently. Illustrative Examples of Work:

Administrative Computing Department Nature of Work: This is professional work in the Office Of Administrative Computing, assisting the Technical Support Manager and other computer personnel in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining IBM-compatible microcomputers and peripherals; operating systems such as DOS and WINDOWS, and installation and maintenance of microcomputer applications software. Primary assignment will be to monitor labs for hardware, software problems, and to check to see if all labs are functioning correctly. Setting up complete computer labs will be required also. Supervision of laboratory assistants will be required. Supervision of two part time workers will be required. This position will require some weekend and evening hours. Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements: Graduation from a vocational/technical school and two years of work experience as described above. Designs, codes, tests and fully maintains the GSW web site. Manages the on-line editing and implementation of official University information from all administrative offices; creates core web site content including home page, top-level menu pages; keeps up-to-date with current web technology development, ensures that the GSW's web site is on par with technical and design standards of other higher education web sites. Educates campus to increase the number of active web "content providers" via faculty/staff development workshops and online tutorials. Uses systems technology wherever possible to automatically develop and deliver content to the site Works with campus unit webmasters to create a "look and feel" for the site. Designs, develops, and tests web applications related to internal educational, business, and administrative functions of the university. Leads, trains, and oversees the work of a team of student employees. Designs, develops, and tests marketing media. Performs daily administrative server functions including back-up, recovery, disk space management, configuration, software programs upgrades, and add/modify user permissions. Instructional Technology Department Nature of Work: Work with the Computer Production Coordinator to oversee the day-to-day operations of the ITC Center including distance learning, instructional technology, television, and teleconferencing events. Coordinate the operation of all GSAMS classes at GSW including scheduling and broadcasting.
Serve as primary WebCT support/contact for Instructors/Students including:
Provide Distance Learning support for Banner, Southern Region Education Board and the OIIT Distance Learning Website. Coordinate with Human Resources and Continuing Education to schedule training for faculty, staff, and students in the use of distance learning technologies and other computer software programs. Nature of Work: Manage and oversee the operation of GSW-Television. Supervise students using the television studio production and video editing facilities. Assist faculty, staff, administration and students with video production and presentation, including the production of promotional or marketing materials for GSW. Investigating and implementing the acquisition of educational programming for air on campus television station or use in the classroom. Work with the Manager of ITC to coordinate and create GSW-TV programming for customer base. This involves employment, training and mentoring of students assigned to specific programs and locations. Coordinate the programming of satellites to downlink program feeds for live teleconferences and classroom use. Oversee the production of original, local programming generated in the television studio or videotaping and editing on/off-campus events. Managing the community bulletin board. Oversee the operation of all the ITC’s production equipment including cameras, tape decks, lights, switchers, editors, DVE’s. Providing technical assistance to faculty and staff regarding the use of instructional technology and other electronic media, in and out of the classroom. Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements: Associate’s degree or higher in related field required. Two years of television/video production experience preferred. Administrative Computing Department Position Responsibilities: This is a highly technical position responsible for the administration and support of mission critical Banner Student Information System including Oracle databases, Banner applications and web services, and user accounts. Areas of responsibility include planning, implementing, enhancing, maintaining, administration and technical support of the Banner Student Information System. Other responsibilities include database administration for Oracle databases and Oracle Web Services including Oracle, Banner, and other software installation, upgrades, patches; account maintenance; database backup, recovery; database security; system and database monitoring; database performance tuning; web development; 3GL programming/compilation; and capacity planning. Customer support requires analysis, recommendations, and solutions for creating, upgrading, integrating, and managing systems in a multiple production environment. The work also includes the responsibility for working closely with the University System’s Office of Information and Instructional Technology (OIIT) and with other units and divisions within GSW to implement and enhance applications to comply with the rules, policies, and regulations of the requirements of the University System of Georgia and other state or federal agencies. Minimum supervision is received and work is reviewed on the basis of results obtained. Some evening work and out-of-town travel is periodically required. This position also provides support for the campus e-mail server and includes, but is not limited to, operating system and applications installation, upgrades, patches, account maintenance, server backup and recovery, and system security. This position also handles PeopleSoft HRMS, Payroll, and Financials upgrades, and technical assistance for PeopleSoft users. Occasional evening and weekend work, and some out of town travel required. Performs related work as required. Minimum Requirements: A Bachelor of Science degree from a college or university with major course work in Information Science or a related field and two years experience in Unix and Windows 2000 server administration, or four years experience in Unix and Windows 2000 server administration.
