Basic Configuration and Maintenance for Internet Explorer and Netscape

Many errors and freeze ups in IE and Netscape can be fixed by regularly clearing out Temporary files and making sure the browser is set correctly.


top Clearing Internet Cache files and Internet History top

If you use Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer

  2. Click on Tools

  3. Click Internet Options

  4. Select Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files

  5. When prompted, check the box to delete all offline content and click OK

  6. To clear the history of websites you have recently visited, click on the Clear History option.

  7. Click OK

If you use Netscape

  1. Open Netscape

  2. Click Edit

  3. Click Preferences

  4. Select Navigator

  5. Select the Clear History Button

  6. Click Advanced

  7. Click Cache

  8. Click Clear Disk Cache

  9. Click OK

If you use Internet Explorer

  1. Open Internet Explorer

  2. Click on Tools

  3. Click Internet Options

  4. Click Settings under Temporary Internet Files

  5. It SHOULD be set for "check for newer versions of Stored pages"  "Every time you start Internet Explorer".

  6. Click OK

If you use Netscape

  1. Open Netscape

  2. Click Edit

  3. Click Preferences

  4. Click Advanced

  5. Click Cache

  6. Near the bottom it says "Document in cache is compared to document on network" - click to check the little circles next to "Every Time".

  7. Click OK
