In 2001, Georgia Southwestern State University undertook the task of providing a wireless networking environment for students residing on campus to effectively and efficiently use the internet. Now, in 2002 we have successfully implemented a wireless community of learning for students to aid in their quest for knowledge and future accomplishments. Before you submit a problem report to our technicians, please take the time to browse through this FAQ in order to resolve your problem.
If you are in a wired dorm, you will need a wired network card (most new
computers come with one installed, or one can be found at Wal-Mart).
If you are in a wireless dorm, you will need a wireless network adapter.
For best results, OIIT recommends the "Linksys Wireless-G USB Adapter",
which can be found at Wal-Mart.
Wireless is only available in the following residence halls:
Duncan Hall
Jordan Hall
Morgan Annex
Southwestern Oaks (Commons Area Only)
Wireless 802.11B and 802.11G will work in residence halls.
If you want to sell or let another user borrow your wireless card, it is your
responsibility to notify OIIT. If you sell your card to someone who
uses it for a malicious purpose, you could be held responsible.
Yes! Students must realize that once connected to the network they will
have a full time internet connection. In order to protect against
outside threats, students are required to have antivirus software, and have
Automatic Updates enabled within their operating system.
