Southwestern has been nationally recognized for its efforts in First Year Experience (FYE) programming, and on-campus living is a large part of the transition to college. Tiffany lives in and manages the freshman living area. Southwestern Oaks. She graduated from GSW with a bachelor's degree and is currently working on her Masters of Business Administration (MBA). Tiffany thinks that GSW is a great place for personal development. The FYE program gives students the opportunity to become prepared not only for the next four years, but for the rest of their lives. My residents are constantly meeting new people, hanging out, and getting assistance about campus resources from their Resident Assistants. |

Not only are the brand new halls a great place to live, but GSW is also a great place for a university experience. Tiffany believes the small campus allows for more interaction between faculty, staff, and students. I can tell you from personal experience, first as a student and now as a staff member, the employees of Southwestern care very deeply for their students.

Cara Lea Fowler |
One of the first people that new students meet when they arrive on campus is Cara Lea Fowler – the First Year Advocate. Mrs. Fowler recently joined the university staff to help students make a successful transition to Southwestern – and she hit the ground running. Students will find her in the classroom, in their residence halls, or even attending student organization meetings. Relationships build trust, and trust builds communication, and Mrs. Fowler lays the foundation for those relationships in individual and group settings. “I am here for the students and I hope to meet whatever need or challenge a student may have – it may not be something I can resolve, but I certainly can assist them in finding the right person to get the right information.” |
Mrs. Fowler feels she is able to relate to the students, because she was
a college student only a few years ago. Having finished her Masters Degree
in 2007, Mrs. Fowler appreciates individuals who take their time to help
students who are facing challenges. “Students at GSW are much more than an ID number – each member of our community is respected for the strengths they bring to our campus.” Mrs. Fowler remembers how much she valued the help that others extended to her, while she was in school. “I understand that every student is unique and brings different life experiences to our campus. It is my goal to help each student reach their desired potential here at GSW.”
