The Dean's Welcome
Welcome to the website for the College of Arts and Sciences at Georgia Southwestern State University. The College of Arts and Sciences is composed of nine departments and offers undergraduate majors in a wide array of fields, ranging from biology to visual arts. The 50 faculty members who teach within the College are committed to the highest possible academic success for all students; to their own research, scholarship, and creative work; and to the overall integrity and joy of the GSW community. The College of Arts and Sciences is also the primary academic unit responsible for instruction in the core curriculum; consequently, the foundation for the university education of all students, regardless of major, begins in coursework located in the College. In addition, faculty and students within the College are active in many ways that enrich the overall experience of studying at GSW. These activities range from theatrical performances to gallery exhibits, from guest lecturers in geology to musical performances by students, faculty, and visiting artists, from events hosted in the Third World Studies Lecture Series to the annual publication of the student literary and arts magazine, Sirocco. Students and faculty bring to the GSW campus a great diversity of background, interest, academic pursuit, and intellectual curiosity.
