GSW Continuing Education plans May courses

AMERICUS--The Division of Continuing Education at Georgia Southwestern State University has a range of upcoming courses planned for May, including: 

  • Defensive Computing 101 (Personal Computer Disaster Prevention and Recovery)--This class teaches non-technical computer users how to prevent most computer disasters and how to recover from unavoidable computer disasters. It meets Saturday, May 15, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 102. Instructor is Alan Luber. Cost is $89 (includes handouts and textbook) Course prerequisites: a basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows 98, Millennium, or XP and an interest in self-preservation.   • Private Brass Lessons (For Ages 10 to Adult)--Lesson time to be scheduled between student and instructor in the GSW Education Center, Room TBA. Instructor is Elizabeth Jones. Cost is $20 for one half hour or $35 for one full hour. For more information, call (229) 931-2151. 
  • Caring For You, Caring For Me: Education and Support for Caregivers (Co-sponsored with Rosalynn Carter Institute)--This program is designed to meet the needs of both family and professional caregivers. Class meets five Tuesdays, May 11 through June 8, 1 to 3:15 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 102. Instructors are Terry Elder and Sarah Bennett Thomas.   • Professional Sales Training--Whether you're a seasoned pro or a beginning sales rep, gain valuable information and practical skills to help you achieve your goals and quotas.   • Business Professional Skills--Course topics include Time Management and Organization, Customer Service and Satisfaction, and Communication Skills.   • Write a Business Plan that Gets You a Loan--This class will meet Tuesday, May 18, 6 to 8 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 102. Instructor is Steve Stanfield, Director of GSW SBDC. Cost is $35. For more information, call (229) 931-2151. 
  • Getting Funded: Planning, Finding Sources and Writing Grant Proposals--Class meets four Thursdays, May 6 through 27, 6 to 8 p.m. (One-on-one sessions will be scheduled with instructor at mutually convenient times.) in the GSW Education Center, Room 102.   • Intro to Doing Business on the Internet--Come learn the basics of conducting business online. This class meets Tuesday, May 25, 6 to 8 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 102. Instructor is Steve Stanfield. Cost is $35. For more information, call (229) 931-2151. 
  • Hatha Yoga Instruction--This class is an ongoing program that accommodates both the beginner and the experienced yoga student. Class meets on Mondays and Thursdays, May 3 through 27, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Windsor Hotel, fourth floor. Instructor is Gabriele U. Stauf, RYT with Yoga Alliance of America. Cost is $50 per session.   • Aikido--Classes will be held at GSW's Education Center, Room 103 on Tuesdays and Thursdays, May 18 through June 24, 7 to 9 p.m. You also may join class already in session at a prorated fee.
