GSW plans summer activities for kids
AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern
State University’s Division of Continuing Education announces the following
summer programs for children:
- Aikido for Ages 12-16—Classes meet Tuesdays
and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting June 8. Classes will continue
for 14 sessions until July 22. The class will be limited to 12 students.
Serious students may be considered for membership in the adult class at the
end of the summer. A variety of fundamental aikido techniques will be
introduced and practiced. The moral and ethical considerations of the use of
martial arts will be emphasized. Special
emphasis will be given to the proper reaction to being grabbed or pulled.
Instructor will be Dr. Mack Elrod, and cost is $56. For more information,

- Gymnastics Camp—For ages 5 to 8 Monday,
Wednesday and Friday, June 14, 16 and 18; For ages 9 and up, Monday,
Wednesday and Friday, June 21, 23 and 25. Classes meet 9 to 11:30 a.m. in
the GSW Florrie Chappell Gym. Cost is $60, and instructors are members of
the Albany YMCA gymnastics staff. Space is limited. For more information,

- Fastpitch Softball Camp—Designed for girls
who are just beginning to play as well as players with some experience.
Participants will learn the fundamental skills of hitting, catching,
pitching and more. Sessions for ages 8-12 run June 7-9, and for ages 13-18
run June 14-16. Camp meets 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the GSW Softball
Field, and students should bring a sack lunch. GSW Softball Coach Eddie Ward
will lead the camp. Cost is $90, which includes a T-shirt. For more
