GSW Continuing Education announces June courses

AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University’s Division of Continuing Education has a variety of classes planned for June, including:

• Advanced Conversational Spanish for Adults—Class meets six Mondays, June 14 through July 19, 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 104, with instructor Connie Zamora Pangle. Cost is $60. For more information or to register, call (229) 931-2151.
• Beginning Cake Decorating, Ages 10 to Adult—Class meets four Tuesdays, June 15 through July 6, 7 to 9 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 100, with instructor Billie Mifflin. Cost is $55, which includes supplies. For more information or to register, call (229) 931-2151.
• Stained Glass Basics—Class meets two Saturdays, June 5 and 12, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the GSW Lakehouse, with instructor Penny Wise. Cost is $135. For more information or to register, call (229) 931-2151.
• Flintknapping, the Art of Making Arrowheads—Class meets Saturday, June 19, 9 a.m. to noon at the GSW Lakehouse and picnic area with instructor John Ferguson. Cost is $45, which includes $10 materials fee. For more information or to register, call (229) 931-2151.

• Aikido for Ages 12-16—Classes meet Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. starting June 8. Classes will continue for 14 sessions until July 22. The class will be limited to 12 students. Serious students may be considered for membership in the adult class at the end of the summer. Instructor will be Dr. Mack Elrod, and cost is $56. For more information, call (229) 931-2151.
• Gymnastics Camp—For ages 5 to 8 Monday, Wednesday and Friday, June 14, 16 and 18; For ages 9 and up, Monday, Wednesday and Friday, June 21, 23 and 25. Classes meet 9 to 11:30 a.m. in the GSW Florrie Chappell Gym. Cost is $60, and instructors are members of the Albany YMCA gymnastics staff. Space is limited. • Fastpitch Softball Camp—Designed for girls who are just beginning to play as well as players with some experience. Sessions for ages 8-12 run June 7-9, and for ages 13-18 run June 14-16. Camp meets 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at the GSW Softball Field, and students should bring a sack lunch. GSW Softball Coach Eddie Ward will lead the camp. Cost is $90, which includes a T-shirt. • Tennis Camp—Sessions will run Monday, Wednesday and Friday, May 31 through June 4, June 7-11, June 14-18, and June 21-25. Ages 5-9 meet 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and ages 10-14 meet 10:30 a.m. to noon. The camp will meet at the GSW Tennis Courts, and be led by Coach Brennon Sewell. Cost is $45 per week, or $180 for all four weeks. • Creative Writing: Once Upon A Time To Remember—This creative writing course is designed for all Americus High and Sumter High graduates and students who wish to submit articles for a book titled “Once Upon A Time To Remember” to be published by Christmas 2004. This joint project of Mulkey McMichael and Gladys Crabb is designed to showcase the past of each school in readiness for the proposed merger this year. Interested contributors can meet in this classroom environment to work on their stories. Class meets June 14, 21 and 28 or Aug. 3, 10 and 17, 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 104. • Put the LEAD in Leadership—This basic one-day leadership training workshop is designed to strengthen your skills to more effectively work with people and organize/prioritize time and tasks. Class meets Thursday, June 10, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 102 with instructor Jeanne Elizabeth Sexson. Cost is $80, which includes lunch. • Troubleshooting—Wednesday, June 2, 6 to 8 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 101. Cost is $30.
• FrontPage 2000: Level 1—Monday, June 7, 6 to 9 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 101. Cost is $30 (includes handout).
• FrontPage 2000: Level 2—Tuesday, June 8, 6 to 9 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 101. Cost is $30 (includes handout).
• Excel 2000: Intermediate—Thursdays, June 3 and 10, 6 to 9 p.m., GSW Education Center, Room 101. Cost is $80.
• Introduction to Computer Programming in the “C” Language—Wednesdays, June 9 through 30, GSW Education Center, Room 101. Cost is $150 (does not include required manual).
• Personal Digital Assistants—Thursdays, June 17 and 24, 6 to 9 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 101. Cost is $60.
• Microsoft Publisher—Tuesdays, June 22 and 29, 6 to 8 p.m. in GSW Morgan Hall, Room 201. Cost is $40.
