GSW students, professor join in writing workshop

Working at Writing--(left to right) Derrick Shields, Gabriele Stauf,
Ph.D., and Sandra Powell will represent Georgia Southwestern State University at
a creative nonfiction workshop with "Ecology of a Cracker Childhood"
author Janisse Ray July 9-11 in Clayton, Ga. Shields, a freshman, had a short
story he wrote chosen to be presented at the event. Powell, a junior, and
Shields both worked on the most recent installment of GSW's literary magazine,
the Clay & Pine, and will attend the workshop on scholarships. Stauf,
an associate professor in English & Foreign Languages, was selected to
complete a creative writing residency at the Lillian E. Smith Center for
Creative Arts, where the workshop will be held.
