GSW offers September Continuing Education courses

AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University’s Division of Continuing Education offers a variety of classes that begin in September, including:

• Business Writing Workshop—Designed for the serious working professional, this eight-week course will cover the five major areas of business correspondence. Students may purchase text from www.amazon.com for an approximate cost of $15.95. Students should also bring notebook, writing tools and floppy disks to class. Class meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Sept. 21 through Nov. 10, 6 to 8 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 158 and Computer Lab 235. The instructor will be Susan R. Biles, Ph.D. Cost is $95. • Ethical Issues in Your Practice—CPAs can earn three of the hours needed to fulfill license requirements. This program is pre-approved for CPE credit. CLE credit is pending. • Dog Obedience, Basic Class—In this five-session course, students will train their dogs under the supervision of a qualified instructor, teaching their dogs to heel, sit, stay, down, stand, come and other basic obedience skills. All dogs will need a properly fitted collar and 6-foot leash. Class meets five Saturdays, Sept. 18 through Oct. 16, 9 to 10 a.m. at the GSW Intramural Field, next to the James Earl Carter Library parking lot. • Latin Dancing—In this six-week course, students will be introduced to the basics in three of the classic Latin dances: the Rumba, the Cha Cha and the Mambo. Class meets six Mondays, Sept. 13 through Oct. 18, 7:45 to 8:45 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 103, with instructors Michelle Oaks and James Page. Cost is $49. • Swing Dancing—Students will start with the basics and advance to some intermediate level dance moves. Although it is not required to have a partner to take the class, partners will be assigned.  Wear comfortable clothes but no sandals or flip-flops. Class meets six Mondays, Sept. 13 through Oct. 18, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 103, with instructors Michelle Oaks and James Page. Cost is $49. • AARP 55 Alive Driver Safety Program—Upon successfully completing the course, graduates may be eligible to receive a state-mandated multi-year discount on their auto insurance premiums. Participants will receive a card good for three years. Class meets Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 21-22, 1 to 5 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 102, with instructor Joe Leonard. • Private Brass Lessons (for ages 10 to adult)—Individual instruction on tuba, trombone, euphonium, baritone, trumpet and French horn is now offered through Continuing Education. Any level of background on the instrument is acceptable, including complete beginners or professional players. Lesson time to be scheduled between student and instructor. • Tennis Lessons for Kids—GSW Continuing Education will offer month-long sessions in September and October with the following dates: Sept. 2-30 (no class on Labor Day), and Oct. 1-29. Students will have the option of registering for four sessions per week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday or three sessions per week on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.
