Sept. 7 GSW Third World Seminar to focus on 'Struggles for Development and Democracy'AMERICUS--"Struggles for Development and Democracy in the Third World: Successes and Failures" is the subject of Georgia Southwestern State University's Third World in Perspective Program seminar from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the GSW Education Center, Room 100. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this free program. "The main purpose of the seminar is to enhance understanding of the factors and conditions impacting efforts to foster development and democracy in the Third World," said Harold Isaacs, Ph.D., professor of history at GSW. The program will feature presentations by three members of the GSW History and Political Science Department, including: Gary Kline, Ph.D., professor of political science, "Third World Development: A Status Report;" Miles A. Cooper, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, "Struggles for Democracy in the Third World, with Special Emphasis on Afghanistan and Iraq;" and Philip I. Szmedra, Ph.D., assistant professor of economics, "Racial Politics and Democracy in Fiji." Isaacs will serve as moderator. The forum is co-sponsored by the Department of History and Political Science, the Georgia Southwestern Foundation, Inc., the GSW Division of Continuing Education, and the Association of Third World Studies, Inc. ### | |
