GSW plans October Continuing Education courses

AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University’s Division of Continuing Education is planning a range of course beginning in October, including:

• Contemporary Writers—In this six-week course, Dr. Elizabeth Kuipers will lead a discussion on contemporary writers. Four of the six books are by Georgia writers, one a cardiologist at Emory University. • Stained Glass Basics—This is a hands-on course in which students will complete a stained glass project.  All supplies can be taken home and are included with the fee. • “Gross”ology for Kids—For children in 2^nd through 5^th  grade. This hands-on course will let students explore the solutions and mixtures of science. A variety of slime will be made—along with some other “gross” science experiments. Class meets Monday, Oct. 25, 5 to 7 p.m. in the GSW Education Center, Room 100, with instructor Lynn Larsen. • Kids—Draw Your Own Self Portraits—For children in 4^th through 7^th grade. Students will be taught drawing techniques and how to measure proportion. • Basic Medical Coding—This six-week, 24-hour course introduces the student to ICD-9 and CPT coding. This course begins to prepare the student to sit for the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) certification examination.
