GSW School of Business Administration aiming for additional accreditation

HONOLULU, Hawaii--The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International’s Initial Accreditation Committee met Monday, April 15 in Honolulu, Hawaii.  At the meeting, the Committee granted Georgia Southwestern State University’s peer review team approval to give the School of Business’ undergraduate and graduate programs a one-year deferral for accreditation.

Georgia Southwestern is a fully accredited institution by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and GSW’s School of Business is accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) and the International Assembly of Collegiate Business Education (IACBE).  Accreditation from the AACSB would simply give the School added credibility as the AACSB is one of the most respected business accrediting bodies in the world.

“I remain optimistic about the future of AACSB accreditation for our School of Business Administration,” said GSW President Kendall Blanchard. “The outstanding faculty, top-notch students, and exceptional leadership in the School are the most important indicators of its strengths and the main reasons for its great reputation. However, this additional accreditation will certainly help to augment that reputation.”

GSW will be receiving an official letter from the AACSB within the next two weeks outlining the timeline for the full accreditation review. During this period the School of Business will resolve a few minor concerns raised by the Committee. In that regard, the School of Business has already taken some of the necessary steps.

A report will be submitted to the AACSB at the end of the period. At which point, a team of two members including the chair of the Accreditation Committee, Dr. VK Unni will visit GSW to confirm absolute compliance.

“This is a huge step for GSW,” said John Kooti, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business. “The AACSB is the most prestigious accrediting entity for business in the world.”
