GSW Alumni Affairs and Continuing Education join

AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) today announced that the Office of Alumni Affairs, formerly a division of GSW University Relations, has combined with Continuing Education to form one department effective July 1, 2008. Following the retirement of Bobbie Duncan, dean of Continuing Ed, Karen Holloway, assistant dean, will serve as the new director of Alumni Affairs and Continuing Education.

“I look forward to the challenge of serving the needs of our community and our GSW Alumni, both of whom are vital to the success of our university,” said Holloway. “I welcome any suggestions and ideas that will enhance our offerings for and relationships with the community and alumni.”

Holloway, a 1978 graduate of Georgia Southwestern, joined the University staff in 1998 as a member of the Financial Aid Office. She transferred to Continuing Education in 2000 and served in progressively responsible roles until her recent promotion to Director.

While Holloway will provide leadership to the Office of Alumni Affairs, Kimberly Comer, coordinator of Alumni Affairs, will continue to work directly with GSW alumni. Comer, also a GSW graduate, earned a bachelor’s degree in education from the University in 1990. April Dodson, senior administrative assistant in Continuing Education, will continue to serve this role for the new department.

The Elderhostel Program, formerly an arm of Continuing Ed, will be operated by Duncan off campus as a separate non-profit organization. Continuing Education, however, remains a very important division within Georgia Southwestern, and its programs will continue operation.
