President Carter throws first pitch in
baseball series win
AMERICUS--Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter threw out the first pitch - a strike - prior to Georgia Southwestern's baseball double-header with Georgia College and State University on Saturday, Mar. 7. GSW sophomore pitcher and Plains native Bud Fuller, Carter's great nephew, handed the former president the ball and received the pitch behind home plate.
Carter attended GSW out of high school prior to attending the Georgia Institute of Technology. A few of his other noted ceremonial first pitches include Game 7 of the 1979 World Series and Game 6 of the 1995 World Series - the night the Atlanta Braves won the championship.
Georgia Southwestern won game one of the double-header and won the series over Georgia College two games to three.
