GSW Distinguished Professor Grants announced

AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University Vice President of Academic Affairs Brian U. Adler, Ph.D., recently announced the 2008-09 grant recipients of the Distinguished Professor Program.

This year’s award winners were Stephanie Harvey, Ph.D., associate professor of biology, for her proposal "Integrated Science-Laboratory Proficiencies and Critical Thinking Skills"; Charles Huffman, Ph.D., associate professor of psychology, to enhance multimedia instruction for psychology courses; Mark Laughlin, D.M.A., assistant professor of music, to acquire a key/note visualizer digital music display; and Karen Turner, Ed.D., assistant professor of health and human performance, for training in student and employee wellness strategies.

The Distinguished Professor Program promotes innovative teaching at Georgia Southwestern, and the goals of the program are to identify, compliment and reward excellence in teaching; to focus public attention upon excellence in teaching at GSW; and to inspire faculty to strive for excellence and innovation in the classroom, thereby improving student learning. Potential teaching strategies may include, but are not limited to, the use of instructional technology or active service learning education.

The number and amounts of grants varies from year to year, and the amount of any single grant does not exceed $5,000.
