Holloway wins GSW alumni award

            AMERICUS—Culminating practically a lifetime of support to Georgia Southwestern State University, Dr. Harold Holloway of Ellaville received the Leewyn J. Finklea Outstanding Alumni Award at Saturday’s alumni brunch.

            The Finklea award, named in honor of the university’s first alumni director, recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service to campus life, the alumni association or the university.

            Holloway served on the GSW Alumni Association Board of Directors for 10 years, serving as president from 2002-2004. During his presidency, Holloway was instrumental in developing the GSW Alumni Cash Scholarship program which has rewarded tens of thousands of dollars to deserving students. Over the past five years, Holloway has granted scholarships specifically to students from Schley County who attend Georgia Southwestern. Holloway was elected to the GSW Foundation Board of Trustees in the spring of 2002.

            Holloway graduated from Georgia Southwestern College in 1958 with an associate’s degree. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lagrange College in 1960 and a doctorate from the Philadelphia College of Medicine in 1969.

            A Schley County native, Holloway has been in private practice for 39 years. The last three have been in Ellaville. Holloway and his wife, Karen, have three children and five grandchildren. They reside in Americus.
