GSW, Georgia Perimeter sign transfer agreement

ATLANTA—Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) President Kendall A. Blanchard signed a Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Tuesday, August 7 with Georgia Perimeter College (GPC) President Anthony Tricoli . Georgia Southwestern is the ninth four-year institution in the state to sign a TAG agreement with GPC and the second outside of metro Atlanta.

The agreement allows GPC students who maintain a 2.0 grade point average and earn an associate degree, or who complete 60 transferable credits (30 of which must be earned at Georgia Perimeter), to be automatically admitted to Georgia Southwestern .

Georgia Perimeter is the largest two-year college in the state and the third largest institution of the University System of Georgia. GPC serves more than 20,000 students through six locations in metro Atlanta.  The TAG will allow students at GPC who aspire to a four-year degree to plan early in their educational career to transfer to Georgia Southwestern. 

"I believe GSW is an attractive option for students in the greater Atlanta area who are seeking the baccalaureate degree,” said Blanchard. “We offer an opportunity for serious students to get away from the rat-race of life in the big city and come to a community and institution where they can concentrate on their studies and receive a high quality undergraduate education at a very affordable price."

Georgia Southwestern had 121 transfer students enrolled entering the Spring 2007 semester. The agreement was signed in hopes that this number would increase considerably boosting enrollment campus-wide.

The guarantee is effective immediately.
