SGTC courses transfer to GSW spring 2009 AMERICUS—Officials from Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and South Georgia Technical College (SGTC) signed an agreement today at GSW indicating that specific SGTC classes taken fall quarter 2008 and beyond are eligible for transfer to Georgia Southwestern beginning spring semester 2009. “I think few people would deny that education is the key to the future of Americus, Sumter County, and the surrounding counties in Southwest Georgia,” said GSW President Kendall Blanchard. “At the same time, the success of educational institutions in the area depends upon their willingness and ability to cooperate. The agreement that we have signed with South Georgia Technical College I believe is both a symbol of that cooperation and an important step toward the creation of a seamless education process for the region.” “This agreement enhances the ‘Two Great Choices – One Great Community’ initiative for our town,” said SGTC President Sparky Reeves. “The success of our community can be measured by the education of its populous. This agreement allows students to easily transition from the technical college setting to the university setting, and we look forward to expanding additional opportunities in the future.” The accepted SGTC courses and their Georgia Southwestern equivalents include: SGTC course GSW equivalent course ENG 191 – Composition and Rhetoric ENGL 1101 – Composition I ENG 193 – Literature and Composition ENGL 1102 – Composition II MAT 191 – College Algebra MATH 1111 – College Algebra PSY 191 – Introduction to Psychology PSYC 1101 – Introduction to Psychology SOC 191 – Introduction to Sociology SOC 1101 – Introduction to Sociology SPC 191 – Fundamentals of Speech COMM 1101 – Fundamentals of Speech MAT 193 – College Trigonometry MATH 1112 – Trigonometry PHY 191 – Introductory Physics PHYS 1111 – Introduction to Physics I ENG 195 – Technical Communications ENGL 2200 – Introduction to Technical Writing Courses taken between fall quarter 2002 and fall quarter 2008 can potentially be transferred as well, but they will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
