Governor visits GSW, commends Americus’ recovery efforts following tornado
Proclaiming recovery—Gov.
Sonny Perdue, left, presents a proclamation to Americus Mayor Barry Blount (’78)
at a reception of “Recognition and Recovery” Friday, Feb. 29 at the Georgia
Southwestern State University’s Student Success Center. Perdue along with GSW
President Kendall Blanchard, state Sen. George Hooks, Rep. Mike Cheokas and a
number of other special guests reflected on the strength and recovery efforts of
the Americus community following the tornado that ravaged the town March 1,
2007. “I believe that Americus and Sumter County will stand as a shining
example,” said Perdue. With the proclamation, Perdue declared Saturday, March 1,
2008 as a “day of renewal." - GSW - | |
