  Clementi, Bush, Mathis inducted into

GSW Hall of Fame

The Hall is now a little more famous—Honoring some of the greatest athletes in school history, Georgia Southwestern State University held its 13th annual Hall of Fame Banquet Saturday, October 20 in the Student Success Center. Joao Paulo Clementi, left, was inducted for tennis, Paul Bush, center, baseball and Willy Mathis, basketball and track. Bush, a member of the Richmond Braves, a Minor League affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, is currently recovering from elbow surgery. He credited his success to God, supportive family and a GSW coaching staff that taught him what it means to work hard. Living at home in his native Brazil, Clementi praised his coach [Sewell] for teaching him mental toughness. Mathis, an Americus native, has spent time battling more than basketball and track competitors. Currently an instructor at South Georgia Technical College, he is fighting a bout with cancer.  Mathis said “life is a challenge,” and remembering his time as a GSW athlete helps him persevere. He was given a standing ovation.
