SGC Entry Program director named
GSW registrar
AMERICUS—Krista Smith, director of the South Georgia College Entry Program (SGCEP) at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW), has been named registrar. Having worked in the University System of Georgia for the past eight years, Smith’s new position as the University’s top academic records keeper is effective immediately.
“Through the past year working with the SGC Entry Program, I have gotten to know so many wonderful people on campus,” said Smith. “I look forward to working with GSW faculty, staff and students as the University continues to grow."
“We are pleased to bring a seasoned professional to this critical position,” said Vice President of Enrollment Management Gaye Hayes, Ph.D. “Krista is knowledgeable of USG and GSW policy, and her pleasant temperament will make her a favorite among students.”
Experience as a registrar made Smith an attractive candidate for this position. Prior to her role as director of the SGCEP, Smith served as South Georgia College’s registrar from July 2006 to June 2008. From 2004 to 2006 she served as SGC’s assistant registrar. In progressively responsible roles, Smith also worked in South Georgia’s Admissions Office and in Continuing Education.
Smith’s tenure in higher education began in 1999 when she served as the associate director of Lagrange College at Albany. A native of Leesburg, Smith earned an associate’s degree from Darton College and later graduated from Valdosta State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Smith fills the position formerly held by Donja Tripp, who recently retired after an extensive career at Georgia Southwestern.
