Kuipers nominated for USG teaching award
AMERICUS—Each year, the University System of
Georgia (USG) gives a Teaching
Excellence Award to one faculty member from each sector of the System (research
universities, regional and state universities and two-year and state colleges).
This year, Associate Professor of English Elizabeth Kuipers, Ph.D., is
representing Georgia Southwestern State University within the regional and state
university category.
Kuipers was nominated by Peggy Ellington, Ph.D., chair, Department of English and Modern Language.
“Liz Kuipers never stops reaching for new ways to share the excitement of discovery with her students,” said Ellington. “That's why I nominated her, and that's why I believe she should be recognized for her contribution to student learning, to our University mission and to each of us who work beside her and are better teachers because of her influence.”
Each USG institution is invited to submit one nomination per year for an individual award. The award committee looks for evidence that nominees are strongly committed to teaching and learning, use effective teaching strategies to enhance student learning and have a strong commitment to fostering academic success through interaction with students outside the classroom.
Kuipers’ tenure at Georgia Southwestern began in 1998. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan College and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Auburn University.
