Modern Languages professor published in French journal

AMERICUS--One of the two faculty development grants that Georgia Southwestern Modern Languages Professor Elena B. Odio, Ph.D. obtained in recent years took her to Saint-Riquier, France in December 2006.  There, she presented a paper at a conference on "The Forest in Reality and Fiction" organized by the Université de Picardie - Jules Verne located in nearby Amiens.  Odio’s paper was entitled, "Malheurs au bois: la forêt ennemie du Moyen Âge".
Odio's paper recently appeared in the journal Études Médiévales, edited by Danielle Buschinger in 2008, volume 9, numbers 9 and 10, pages 57-62.
Other scholars whose papers appear in the journal came from Bordeaux, Lille, Marseille and Strasbourg, France, and from Frankfurt, Germany and Lausanne, Switzerland.  Odio was the only American participant at Saint-Riquier.

Odio was also the January/February winner of the Where in the World? Mystery Photo Contest published in the National Capital Language Resource Center newsletter. Odio successfully identified a picture of the Atomium monument in Brussels, Belgium, which was built for the 1958 World’s Fair.

A professor of French and Spanish, Odio joined the GSW Department of English and Modern Languages faculty in 1992. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Troy State University in Alabama, a Master of Arts from the University of Miami and a Master of Arts and Ph.D. from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.
