Pierce on tap for GSW convocation Aug. 20

AMERICUS—Georgia Southwestern State University is pleased to welcome motivational speaker and GSW graduate Garry Pierce as keynote speaker of the first Fall 2008 convocation. The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20 at 11 a.m. in Jackson Performance Hall, and the public is invited to attend this free event.

In addition to his work as a motivational speaker, Pierce mentors college and professional athletes, gang members and prison inmates. He currently serves as associate pastor at Zion Full Gospel World Ministry.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Pierce enlisted in the United States Marine Corps out of high school, and he competed internationally for the U. S. boxing team. Upon completion of his service to the U.S. Marine Corps, Pierce attended Georgia Southwestern College and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems. Following graduation, Pierce worked for Sprint Telecommunications Company for 18 years as a national account manager.

Pierce and his wife, Toni, and their two daughters reside in Atlanta, Ga.
