Regents Authorize South Georgia College Entry Program on campus of GSW

ATLANTA, Ga.--At its March 2008 Board meeting the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia approved the request of President Kendall A. Blanchard of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) in Americus and Interim President Virginia Carson of South Georgia College (SGC) in Douglas to establish the South Georgia College Entry Program (SGCEP).  The program will be housed on the GSW campus in Americus and administered by South Georgia College.

 Beginning Fall Semester 2008 students will be able to enroll in the SGCEP and take courses that will prepare them for transfer admission to Georgia Southwestern.  These SGC students will be eligible to live on the GSW campus and participate in most student life activities.  A student would initially be attracted to the program to complete required learning support courses, courses needed to fulfill college preparatory curriculum requirements, and 30 semester hours of core curriculum courses. 

 The Entry Program grew out of conversations among campus officials eager to advance the University System goal of creating a more educated Georgia.

We are ready to begin.”
