GSW SIFE team wins regional competition

AMERICUS—The Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team returned home victoriously from the regional competition March 20, 2008 in Atlanta, Ga. The event was one of 17 regional competitions held in the U.S. this spring.

The team was named a SIFE USA Regional Champion in the overall competition as a result of the presentation they reported to a panel of business leaders of their year-long community outreach projects. The team will now advance to the SIFE USA National Exposition in Chicago, Ill. May 13-15.

“I am very proud of our team and its accomplishments this year; everyone has been very enthusiastic and very energetic in planning and completing all projects,” said John Kooti, Ph.D., dean of the School of Business and Sam Walton Fellow. “Our presentation team did an excellent job in presenting the annual report.”

SIFE is an international non-profit organization active on over 1400 university campuses in more than 48 countries.  SIFE teams create economic opportunities in their communities by organizing outreach projects that address the following areas: market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success skills and business ethics.  Their projects are judged at competition on creativity, innovation and effectiveness.

During the academic year, the GSW-SIFE team organized 29 projects dealing with teaching and promoting free enterprise in the community.  The School of Business Advisory Board and partners have been instrumental in providing the support necessary to complete these projects.
