GSW honors scholarship donors and recipients
AMERICUS—Scholarship recipients at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) were privileged to share a meal with their benefactors Thursday, April 16 at a luncheon honoring the two groups.
“I am gratified by the scholar, donor and trustee participation and look forward to a bigger and better event next year,” said Boyce E. “Stick” Miller, GSW Foundation Executive Director. “It was a rare opportunity to meet informally with our donors and have them meet the students who are beneficiaries of their generosity.”
Sponsored by the University and the GSW Foundation, nearly 120 people were on hand for the event which took place in the Marshall Student Center Private Dining Room. The featured speakers included Michael Harris, member of the GSW golf team, senior business student and Jimmy Ray Scholarship recipient; Christine Krause, freshman special education major and Honors Program scholar; and Lynn Bozof, Evan Bozof Scholarship donor and founder of the National Meningitis Association. Bozof’s son, Evan, tragically died 11 years ago of meningococcal meningitis. He was a scholar athlete on the baseball team.
Other members of the program included GSW Foundation Chairman Rudolph Patterson, who opened the luncheon with a welcome from the Foundation; Miller, who introduced Harris; GSW Honors Program Director Elizabeth Gurnack, who introduced Krause; Hurricane Club President Ryan Young, who introduced Bozof; and GSW President Kendall Blanchard delivered the closing.
The University and the Foundation plan to make this event a yearly tradition.
