Weiland is GSW Teacher of the Year

AMERICUS--Geology Professor Tom Weiland, Ph.D., received the Teacher of the Year Award at Georgia Southwestern State University Saturday, Dec. 13 at the graduation breakfast.  

Initiated in 1998, the award is sponsored by the GSW National Alumni Association and presented during the fall commencement activities to a faculty member and is based on service during the previous academic year. The recipient is nominated and selected by peers, and criteria for selection include excellence in teaching and other categories used for consideration in granting promotion and tenure.

Weiland is a native of North Carolina where he received his B.S. degree from East Carolina University and his M.S. degree and doctorate from the University of North Carolina. He is a member of the Geological Society of America, the American Geophysical Union and the Georgia Academy of Science. Weiland has been honored as a Distinguished Professor and the GSW Excellence and Commitment to Teaching Award. He is married to Lynn Weiland, and they have three children, Sarah, Kali and Kyle.
