English Language Institute

Students from many foreign countries, mainly countries in Asia, come to the English Language Institute (ELI) at Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) to study English prior to becoming regular students at GSW, other institutions in Georgia, or in other states. In addition, the ELI welcomes students to study English for other specific purposes. Nurses, English teachers, businessmen, government officials, and professors study English at the ELI to learn about American culture and society, improve business practices, and for professional enrichment.

Cultural Experiences

All ELI students receive a student identification card and have the same privileges as regular GSW students, including access to all campus facilities. ELI students can participate in a number of social events and activities on and off campus.

Programs and Services

The ELI offers options for short- and long-term English language study throughout the year for learners. Whether you wish to come for a short period to develop your English communication skills or aim to expand your academic English skills with a long-term intensive program, the ELI has something for you. Outside of class, you can experience the culture of Americus and Georgia through guided social activities. While you are attending ELI, you can stay on campus in the GSW residential housing. The staff of the ELI is here to help you make the most of your stay in our safe and beautiful town.
