The Psychology major offers coursework and laboratory experience in the behavioral and cognitive sciences. The psychology programs prepare students for graduate work in psychology and training for employment in various kinds of social service occupations.
The Sociology major has a wide variety of courses to help prepare students to analyze and understand the interactions and social institutions that shape our culture and influence behavior. The sociology degree offers valuable preparation for professions such as law, business, education, medicine, social work, and public administration.

Mission Statement
Faculty members of the Department of Psychology and Sociology at Georgia Southwestern State University challenge students to think critically about behavioral, mental, and social processes, and to develop the knowledge and skills for a variety of post-baccalaureate alternatives. These objectives are implemented via a rigorous curriculum that focuses on the application of scientific thinking, respect for the diversity of human experiences, and understanding of how psychology and sociology contribute to the improvement of the human condition
