Program Operation
The Early Childhood Development Center is currently a Georgia lottery-funded Pre-kindergarten Program serving for four-year-old children in two classrooms within a full-day program. Children must be four by September 1 to qualify for admission to the Georgia Pre-K Program. The program is free for all participants.
Operating Hours
Monday - Friday: 7:50 am to 2:20 pm
The calendar is a modified version, incorporating elements of the GSW calendar and public school calendars.
Transportation
It is the family's responsibility to arrange transportation for the children to attend the Center. Children may be dropped off between 7:50 am and 8:00 am. Pick-up is between 2:20 pm and 2:30 pm.
Snack and Lunch
Children bring both snack and lunch each day. The Center provides a microwave oven. Teachers will heat food that needs to be served warm.
Personnel
The program is staffed by competent Early Childhood professionals. The lead teacher in each classroom holds an Early Childhood Education teaching certificate from the State of Georgia, and the assistant teachers are both trained and experienced in working with preschool children. All teachers participate in ongoing professional development to ensure up-to-date knowledge and skills to support their continuing professional development.
In addition to the teachers, the program is directed by a full-time member of the faculty in the School of Education at GSW.
