There is an inseparable connection between academic excellence and diversity. Diversity can be broadly defined to include all aspects of human difference, including but not limited to, age, disability, race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression and identity, language heritage, learning style, national origin, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, status as a veteran and world-view.
The Council on Diversity was convened by the Dr. Charles Patterson and continued through current President, Dr. Neal Weaver, to strengthen and reinforce diversity as an integral component of academic excellence as we prepare our students for success in a culturally and racially diverse society and workforce. The Council on Diversity guides the development of policies and processes that demonstrate Georgia Southwestern’s efforts towards diversity among students, faculty, and staff and also ensure a supportive, welcoming environment for every member of the campus community.
