Our Mission

The mission of the Georgia Southwestern State University Writing Center is to provide a positive and supportive environment for a diverse population of writers and scholars in which they are enabled to respond to each others’ texts through engaged conversation and collaboration. Additionally, our center serves as a resource for the GSW and surrounding community in writing and the teaching of writing.

We Help

  • Students at all writing levels
  • Students in any part of the writing process
  • Students of all majors
  • Students for whom English is a second language
  • Students with creative pieces

What to Expect

  • A one-on-one consultation with a trained writing consultant
  • A conversation with the consultant about the paper
  • A discussion of what was effective in the paper as well as what may need more clarification or attention
  • An explanation of various strategies for different stages of the writing process
  • A focus on your authorship and your ideas

Our mission is to create better writers as well as better papers; that is, the goal of the Writing Center is to both work with writers on their papers and also to assist writers in building on the writing process that works best for them, which includes teaching strategies to strengthen writing skills.
